The German pay-TV channel Sky Deutschland is giving its streaming service Sky Ticket a new name: WOW.
The service, which provides access to Sky’s offerings without a long-term subscription, was launched as Sky Online in 2014 and renamed Sky Ticket in 2016. Interestingly, the rebranding to WOW marks the first time that the Sky brand no longer appears in the name.
With the redesign taking place today, the user interface has been revamped, the search function expanded, and various personalization options added.
As an introductory offer, new customers can subscribe to WOW at reduced prices until July 31st: The series package is available for €7.99 instead of €9.99 per month, while the combined movie and series bouquet costs €9.98 instead of €14.98 per month.
The reduced subscription price applies indefinitely for customers as long as they do not cancel their subscription. There are no discounts on the sports package (€29.99/month), but there is an offer for long-term customers: viewers who opt for an annual subscription will only pay €24.99 per month.
WOWtv is a Canadian Chinese language Category B specialty channel operated by the Canadian Chinese Media Network (CCMN), predominantly airing foreign-sourced content in Cantonese, Mandarin, and Vietnamese, as well as local Canadian programming.
The channel was launched exclusively on Rogers Cable on April 29, 2009. On December 2, 2009, WOWtv launched a high-definition (HD) channel called WOWtv HD, which simulcasts the standard-definition signal on Rogers Cable. In June 2010, WOWtv HD launched on Bell Fibe TV. On September 25, 2012, WOWtv launched its West channel to Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton via Telus Optik TV.
WOW TV’s headquarters is now located in Markham, relocated from the original studios in Toronto (Agincourt).
The live sports subscription costs €29.99.
There are no introductory offers for sports fans. You will need to invest €29.99 per month for the “WOW Live Sport” live sports subscription. However, if you opt for annual payment, you will receive “WOW Live Sport” for 12 months for only €299, equivalent to a calculated monthly price of €24.99. Then you will have access to all Saturday games in the Bundesliga, all games in the 2nd Bundesliga, the DFB-Pokal, and all Formula 1 races.
The new offering, which will be available (unusually for Sky) without long contract terms and commitments, will be introduced on the new website www.wowtv.de and also provides information on the system requirements for usage. Potentially interested users only need internet access; special hardware receivers are not required.
Up to two devices simultaneously
Paying customers can log in with their credentials and stream available content on up to two devices simultaneously. According to Sky, this should be sufficient in the early days. The pay-TV channel advertises the availability of over 1,000 movies and series from the HBO and Peacock catalogs, as well as access to their own Sky Originals.
The official WOW application is available for download on the App Store for use on iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV.
